Battle of the SUVs: Available Now vs. Coming Soon!
Today, we will compare two very different SUVs from India. One is already on sale, and the other is coming in the future. The Tata Curvv is here to buy right now. The Next-Gen Mahindra XUV500 is expected to launch around December 2026. Because one car is still being developed, this is more of a sneak peek at what to expect!

Size and Shape: Coupe vs. Traditional SUV
The biggest difference between them is their style and size.
- Tata Curvv: This is a coupe-SUV. This means it has a sporty, sloping roof that looks fast. It is a mid-size SUV. It is about 4308 mm long. It has a large boot of 500 litres and high ground clearance.
- Mahindra XUV500 (Next-Gen): This will be a traditional 5-seater SUV, like a bigger brother to the XUV3XO. It will likely be shorter than the old XUV500 to fit better in the city.
Engine and Power
Both will have different engine choices for buyers.
- Tata Curvv: You can choose from three types:
- Petrol: A 1.2L turbo engine with good power.
- Diesel: A 1.5L diesel engine.
- Electric (EV): A 55 kWh battery that can go over 500 km on one charge!
- Mahindra XUV500 (Next-Gen): It is expected to use engines from other Mahindra cars like the Thar. This means it will likely have a strong 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
Technology and Safety Features
The Curvv shows us what is possible today, while the XUV500’s features are our best guess.
- Tata Curvv (Available Now): It comes loaded with features. You get a big 9-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, and up to 6 airbags. It is built on a very safe platform, so experts expect it to get a 5-star safety rating.
- Mahindra XUV500 (Expected): It will probably have a dashboard like the XUV700. We expect a large infotainment screen, connected car technology, and multiple airbags. The exact list of features will be confirmed closer to launch.
Price and When You Can Buy
This is where they are most different.
- Tata Curvv: You can buy it today! Prices start from around ₹9.66 lakh and go up to ₹18.85 lakh for the top electric model (ex-showroom).
- Mahindra XUV500 (Next-Gen): You will have to wait. It is expected in late 2026. When it arrives, its price may start from around ₹12 lakh to ₹13 lakh (ex-showroom).
