Honda ZR-V India Launch likely on 22 May – Hybrid SUV

The all-new ZR-V Hybrid SUV on May 22, 2026. This will be a premium flagship model for Honda in India. It will likely be introduced as a fully imported Completely Built Unit, which means the car is made in a foreign country and brought to India as a whole. It cannot be assembled in India. This is Honda’s way of pushing into the high-end SUV segment in our country.

The India-spec ZR-V is expected to feature Honda’s advanced e:HEV strong hybrid system. The engine is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors. The combined output is approximately 184 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. The transmission is an electronically controlled e-CVT, which stands for continuous variable transmission. The estimated fuel efficiency is around 22 to 23 kilometres per litre. That is very good for a car of this size. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in roughly 7.8 to 8.4 seconds, which makes it quite quick for a family SUV.

Unlike the boxy Honda Elevate, the ZR-V has more rounded, crossover-like proportions. It is based on the same platform as the 11th-generation Civic, which is a well-regarded car for its handling and ride quality. On the outside, key highlights include an octagonal open-mouth front grille, slim LED headlamps with L-shaped daytime running lights, and a sporty rear with wraparound LED tail lamps and dual exhaust tips. The overall design is sleek and modern, not boxy and upright like the Elevate.

Inside, the cabin follows a minimalist design. The dashboard is set low to give you a better view of the road, and there is a raised centre console that makes the interior feel more special. For technology, the ZR-V is expected to come with a 9-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.2-inch digital driver display, and a premium 12-speaker Bose sound system. Comfort features likely include a powered driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control so the driver and passenger can set different temperatures, a wireless charging pad for your phone, and an electric sunroof.

The ZR-V will come standard with the Honda Sensing suite, which is Honda’s name for its advanced driver assistance systems, commonly called ADAS. This includes adaptive cruise control, which automatically keeps a safe distance from the car ahead, lane keep assist and lane departure warning to help you stay in your lane, and collision mitigation braking system that can brake automatically to avoid a crash. The car will also have 8 airbags, Hill Hold Assist, and a 360-degree camera for easy parking.

Because the ZR-V is being imported as a CBU, it will carry a high price tag. The expected price range is between ₹40 lakh and ₹50 lakh, ex-showroom. At this price, it will compete with other premium 5-seater SUVs like the Volkswagen Tiguan, the Skoda Kodiaq, and the Jeep Meridian. These are all large, premium SUVs that appeal to buyers who want luxury and status.

If you are thinking of buying the Honda ZR-V, you should do so if you want a premium hybrid SUV with excellent fuel efficiency of around 22 to 23 kilometres per litre, if you want the reliability and resale value of the Honda brand, if you want advanced safety features like the complete Honda Sensing ADAS suite, and if you want a modern, sleek design that is different from boxy SUVs. However, you should buy it only if you have a high budget of ₹40 to ₹50 lakh and if you are okay with the fact that it is a fully imported CBU, which may lead to longer waiting times for spare parts.

You should consider other SUVs if you have a lower budget, if you want a locally assembled car with cheaper spare parts and faster service, or if you want a 7-seater SUV instead of a 5-seater.
