Land Rover Baby Defender EV Spied on Road: New Compact Electric SUV Coming by 2027
Land Rover is preparing to introduce the new fully electric SUV, widely expected to be named Defender Sport. Positioned as a smaller sibling to the iconic Defender, this upcoming model is expected to blend rugged styling with strong off-road credentials while targeting a more accessible price point. Once launched, the new model will effectively take the place of the ageing Discovery Sport in the brand’s lineup.

The early prototype sightings by Auto Express suggest the Defender Sport will retain the upright, boxy stance associated with the larger Defender, though with some refinements. The slimmer headlights, a slightly sleeker nose, and redesigned proportions will help adapt the bold design language to a smaller footprint.
The expect rugged visual elements, such as blacked-out lower bumpers, protective cladding, and off-road-ready wheels, alongside optional urban-focused styling packs. The customisation will remain a major focus. The buyers are likely to have access to contrast roof finishes, accessory packs, wheel arch extensions, and expedition-style add-ons like roof racks.
The Defender Sport will be JLR’s new EMA electric platform. The traditional Defender’s combustion-based layout allows for improved cabin packaging and a fully electric drivetrain. The SUV will feature a dual-motor setup and falst battery pack mounted under the floor.
