The Formula 73 celebrates the 750 Super Sport Desmo, the first Ducati road bike equipped with the desmodromic valve timing system. The Super Sport was a replica of the 750 Imola Desmo, with which Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari won the 1972 200 Miglia di Imola, which is the first European competition for the production-derived motorcycles.

This limited-edition motorcycle gets the silver as well as aqua green livery with the vertical gold stripe on the tank, a nod to the unpainted strip on the 750 Imola Desmo, that is allowed teams to check fuel levels. Adding to its cafe racer styling are clip-on handlebars with the bar-end mirrors as well as a half fairing.

The Formula 73 has been powered with the 803cc desmodromic engine, which is also seen at the various Scrambler models. The peak output figures are 73 bhp and 65.2 Nm of torque. Ducati has also equipped the bike with the Termignoni exhaust, featuring details designed specifically for the model.

The other notable components consists 17-inch wheels shod in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, billet aluminium brake, clutch levers, as well as foot pegs, and a Rizoma fuel cap. The electronic systems include DTC traction control, cornering ABS, Ducati Quick Shift and two ride modes.
