New KTM Adventure with Parallel-Twin Engine Spotted Testing
An early-stage prototype of an all-new KTM Adventure bike has been spotted testing abroad. The test mule has very little bodywork, so you can see the important parts underneath. This new bike is powered by a parallel twin-cylinder engine. KTM is trying to fill the big gap between its smaller single-cylinder bikes and its expensive premium twin-cylinder series. If you want a middleweight adventure bike from KTM, this is something to watch.

This new parallel-twin engine platform is being developed directly by KTM in Austria. It is designed to be the successor to the long-running 690cc LC4 single-cylinder platform. Big single-cylinder engines are having trouble meeting strict pollution laws around the world. Switching to a twin-cylinder engine solves this problem. It also makes the bike much smoother on highways because the power pulses are smaller and more frequent. This new bike is not the same as the smaller 490cc twin that is being developed with Bajaj in India. That is a separate project. This one is a slightly larger middleweight bike made in Austria.
The new engine is expected to produce about 60 to 70 horsepower. This fits perfectly between the 390 series, which makes about 45 horsepower, and the 790 series, which makes about 95 horsepower. The bike will have long-travel WP upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. The suspension is tuned for off-road riding. Despite having more power than the 390, the bike uses a simpler single front disc brake with WP calipers. This helps keep the weight down and controls production costs. The spy shots show that the bike rides on heavy-duty wire-spoke wheels. These are designed for dual-sport tyres, which work well on both roads and dirt.
The test mule was caught very early in development, so it does not have production bodywork. The overall structure looks very industrial. However, you can see some design elements that are borrowed from newer KTM rally bikes. There is a tall front visor and a vertical LED headlight module that looks like the one on the newest 390 Adventure. The exhaust is minimal and routed high to maximize ground clearance for trail riding. The ergonomics are upright and spacious, with a wide handlebar for relaxed long-distance touring comfort.
The bike is still in the early phases of engineering. KTM is expected to roll out this new parallel-twin engine platform globally by mid-to-late 2027. The engine will be used across the entire KTM lineup, including Duke naked bikes and RC sports variants. Once it hits showrooms, this middleweight Adventure will compete directly with established rivals like the Kawasaki Versys 650, the Triumph Tiger Sport 660, and upcoming mid-tier Aprilia models.
If you are thinking of waiting for this new KTM Adventure, you should do so if you want a middleweight adventure bike with a smooth parallel-twin engine. You want more power than the 390 series but you do not want to pay the high price of the 790 series. You plan to do both road touring and off-road riding. You can wait until mid-to-late 2027 for the global launch. You should also consider the Indian market launch may happen after the global debut.
You should buy the current KTM 390 Adventure if you need a bike immediately and you are happy with the single-cylinder engine. You should also consider the KTM 790 Adventure if you have a higher budget and want the extra power right now.
