Tata Harrier launched with new 1500cc petrol engine

The Tata Harrier has mostly been known as a diesel SUV. That’s how people recognise it. With the petrol version expected in 2026, Tata isn’t trying to create a new image for the Harrier. They’re simply filling a gap that’s been there for a while. Some buyers wanted the design and size of the Harrier without committing to diesel. This version exists for them.

Same Harrier, Same Presence

From the outside, the petrol Harrier is expected to look exactly like the one already on the road. The strong stance stays. The wide body stays. From a distance, you won’t be able to tell which one is petrol and which one is diesel. That’s intentional. The Harrier’s design already works, and Tata doesn’t see a reason to change it just because the engine is different.

Engine and Driving Feel

The petrol Harrier is expected to use Tata’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, producing around 170 hp. On paper, it matches the diesel closely. On the road, the feel will be different. The petrol version should feel quieter and smoother, especially in city driving. Acceleration is expected to be cleaner, without the heavy pull that diesel owners are used to.

Gearbox and Everyday Driving

Automatic and manual gearbox options are expected to continue. In daily traffic, the petrol Harrier should feel easier to live with. Less noise. Less vibration. On highways, it should cruise comfortably, though fuel efficiency won’t be its strongest point. This version is clearly aimed at buyers who value smoothness over mileage.

Cabin, Comfort, and Safety

Inside, nothing major changes. The cabin layout remains familiar. Large touchscreen. Digital cluster. Comfortable seats. The Harrier has always been good at long-distance comfort, and that remains unchanged. Safety features like multiple airbags, ADAS functions, and stability control are expected to carry over as well.

Price and Where It Fits

When launched, the Tata Harrier petrol is expected to be priced slightly lower than the diesel, possibly starting around ₹15 lakh and going up to ₹22 lakh, depending on the variant. It won’t replace the diesel. It will sit alongside it. The Harrier petrol doesn’t try to reinvent anything. It keeps the same SUV people already trust, just with a different engine choice. For buyers who want the Harrier experience without diesel, this finally makes sense.
