Hyundai Compact SUV Based on Bayon Spied Testing

Hyundai’s upcoming Bayon-based compact SUV was recently spied testing abroad, revealing fresh details about the exterior. The India-bound SUV is expected to share the same underpinnings as the global-spec Bayon crossover, and will slot in between the sub-compact Exter as well as compact Venue SUV in India. This is expected to launch by Q3 2026.

Exterior Details

At first glance, the overall silhouette of the SUV is reminiscent of the Venue. The front end features a split LED headlamp setup with the DRL signatures that look similar to those of the Venue, with the generous body cladding at the lower part of the bumper. The side profile consists window line and cladding over wheel arches, which also looks similar, and this gets the new set of alloy wheels.

Powertrains Options

The Bayon-based compact SUV debuts with the new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine being developed by Hyundai. This engine sits between the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine used in the compact models and the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that does duty in the midsize models. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine has also been made hybrid-ready as part of the carmaker’s hybrid-powered model strategy. This is expected to be paired with either DCT or e-CVT gearbox.

Price

The expected price of the Bayon-based compact SUV is expected to range from Rs. 7 lakh to Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom). This will rival the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Citreon C3, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Toyota Taisor.
