Lexus ES500E EV launched at Rs. 89.99 Lakh
Lexus has launched the new ES version in India in an all-electric guise at Rs. 89.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making the brand’s first EV for the country. From the all-electric 500e, the ES is also available in the petrol-hybrid guise (350h) as before, although prices for that will be announced later this year.

The biggest update in the new ES is at the powertrain front with the introduction of the new 500e variant. This uses a 74.68kWh battery, which powers the two electric motors, effectively giving it all-wheel drive. The front electric motor produces 227 hp and 267 Nm of torque, although the rear electric motor produces 120 hp and 170 Nm of torque. The total system output has been rated at 343 hp and 438 Nm of torque, and Lexus claims a 0-100kph sprint time of rather brisk 5.5 seconds.
The Lexus is claiming a range of 580km on a single charge, as well as offering an 11kW AC home charger and a 2.8 kW portable charger. The company also claims that using a fast 150 kW DC fast charger, the battery can be topped up from 10-80 per cent in 28 minutes. The Lexus offers an 8-year/2,00,000 km warranty on both the vehicle and the battery.
The front end also features blacked-out vertical elements at the edges of the bumper, which is where the LED headlights are located. The side facade is characterised by a rising belt line as well as a rather striking Z-shaped trim element which runs across the doors. The ES rides on 21-inch aero-optimised wheels with the 235/45 section tyres.
