New K1 Platform – The Big Change

The biggest update for the new Sonet is moving to the K1 platform .

Benefits of the K1 platform:

  • Over-the-air (OTA) updates – Software updates without visiting service center
  • Remote diagnostics – Car can send health reports remotely
  • More ultra-high-strength steel – Better safety in key areas
  • Better electrical and electronics architecture – Supports modern features

The new Sonet will share this platform with the Kia Syros .

Better Rear Seat Space

The current Sonet has a common complaint – tight rear seat space . Kia may fix this issue with the new generation.

What to expect:

  • Slightly longer wheelbase for more knee room
  • Better shoulder room for three passengers

For reference, the Hyundai Venue (Sonet’s cousin) now has a 2,520mm wheelbase – 20mm longer than before – offering better rear seat comfort .
