Anand Mahindra Showcases Thar Roxx-Based All-Terrain Vehicle

The new All-Terrain Vehicle, or ATV, is based on the Mahindra Thar Roxx. This vehicle is specially made for the Indian security and armed forces. It was unveiled at the Raksha Triveni Sangam by Mahindra Defence. The design follows a “no excess, no ornamentation” philosophy, which means everything on the vehicle has a purpose. There are no fancy lifestyle features, only pure tactical capability for the battlefield.

This ATV was developed in collaboration with a Bengaluru-based company called Prad 4×4. The standard Thar Roxx is a lifestyle SUV that people buy for fun and off-roading. For this military version, the team stripped away all the comfort features and replaced them with mission-grade hardware. The result is a rugged, no-nonsense machine built for extreme conditions.

The ATV is designed to be ready for serious action. It is equipped with a gun mount that can hold a 7.62mm machine gun. There is a front-mounted recovery winch to pull the vehicle out of difficult spots, and reinforced hoist brackets that make the vehicle ready to be airdropped from aircraft. The conventional doors and roof have been removed and replaced with a modular roll cage and simple tubular hinged frames. This reduces weight and improves visibility for the crew. The vehicle also has full underbody armour to protect against mines and rocks, a reinforced windshield guard, and metal rock sliders on the sides to protect the body when driving over rough terrain. To extend its range, the ATV has jerrycan holders for extra fuel and a tandem spare tyre carrier at the rear, which holds two spare tyres.

Under the bonnet, the ATV is built on the proven Thar Roxx platform. It uses the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, which produces 172 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The vehicle has a four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case, which is essential for climbing steep slopes and crawling over rocks. The ATV rides on 18-inch RT-grade all-terrain tyres mounted on heavy-duty steel wheels. The suspension has been raised and reinforced to give higher ground clearance and better durability over rough terrain.

This new ATV highlights Mahindra’s growing role in defence mobility. The company already makes several vehicles for the armed forces, including the Armado, Marksman, Rakshak, and mine-protected vehicles. Even the standard Scorpio is widely used by the Indian Army for various duties. With this Thar Roxx-based ATV, Mahindra has once again shown its ability to take a civilian platform and adapt it into a specialised machine for real-world challenges.

If you are a military or security force planner, this ATV would be a great choice for operations in mountains, deserts, and remote regions. It is built for extreme terrain, is easy to repair in the field, and can be air-dropped behind enemy lines. For civilian off-road enthusiasts, this exact vehicle is not for sale, but you can get similar bolt-on bumpers, guards, and other off-road parts from specialists like Prad 4×4 to make your own Thar Roxx look and perform like this military beast.
