Maruti Suzuki among top four EV brands between Jan-May 2026
Maruti Suzuki has officially broken into the top four electric vehicle brands in India between January and May 2026. Driven by the breakout success of its single electric offering, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, India’s largest traditional automaker registered 4,365 EV units in the first five months of the year. This volume surge allowed Maruti Suzuki to overtake prominent established global and domestic EV rivals including VinFast, BYD, Hyundai, and Kia. If you are watching the EV market in India, this is a very important development.

According to comprehensive industry sales data, the market rankings by volume stand as follows. Tata Motors is the undisputed market leader with 40,373 units. Mahindra is holding strong at second place with 23,247 units. JSW MG Motor is maintaining a close third position with 22,943 units. Maruti Suzuki has secured the new fourth spot with 4,365 units. VinFast has been pushed to fifth with 4,133 units. BYD has 2,441 units. Hyundai has 2,333 units. Kia has 2,024 units.
Maruti Suzuki achieved the fourth spot with only one EV model on sale, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. By comparison, lower-ranked competitors like VinFast sell three models, while Hyundai fields both the Creta Electric and the Ioniq 5. This is a very impressive achievement for a single model. The e Vitara starts at ₹15.99 lakh, positioning it beneath direct entry-level midsize SUV rivals like the VinFast VF6 and the Hyundai Creta Electric. This competitive pricing has helped drive strong sales.
Deliveries for the e Vitara only fully commenced on February 17, 2026. The company averaged 873 monthly units over the cumulative 5-month period despite notable early production constraints. This means that even with limited initial production, the car sold very well. Maruti Suzuki is actively leveraging its sprawling nationwide Nexa and Arena dealership networks. The company has also stated a goal to build out 100,000 charging points across India by 2030. This vast support ecosystem gives Maruti a big advantage over newer EV brands.
If you are thinking of buying an electric car, you should consider the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara if you want a reliable EV from India’s largest carmaker. You want the peace of mind of a huge service network. You want a competitive price of ₹15.99 lakh. You want a car that is already selling well and proving its popularity. You should consider the Tata Nexon EV if you want the market leader. You should consider the Mahindra XUV 400 if you want a more powerful electric SUV. You should consider the Hyundai Creta Electric if you want a premium electric SUV. But if you trust the Maruti brand, the e Vitara is an excellent choice.
