Next-gen Hyundai i20 has finally been teased

Hyundai has officially released the first teaser for the fourth-generation i20. This confirms that the premium hatchback is set to make its global debut in July 2026. The single teaser image shows a radically transformed front profile. The car is moving into a sharper, more angular design era. If you are a fan of the i20, the new model looks very exciting.

The most prominent feature of the new i20 is the Y-shaped LED daytime running lights built into the multi-projector headlamps. These lights look very similar to those on the Lamborghini Revuelto. There is a full-width LED light bar that spans the entire edge of the bonnet, seamlessly connecting the two headlamp clusters. The current model has a massive cascading grille. The next-gen car has a compact, rectangular grille sitting above a broader lower air intake. The overall design is sharper and more aggressive. Leaked details also suggest a tougher, slightly boxier silhouette. There will be a sharper window line kink and connected Y-shaped tail lamps at the rear.

Spy shots of the testing mules reveal a sophisticated, driver-centric dashboard. It features a curved single-piece display that integrates two screens into one smooth panel. The new hatchback is expected to debut the updated Pleos Connect infotainment architecture. This will bring better connectivity and smarter features. For the first time, the premium hatchback will likely include Level 2 ADAS, which is Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. It will also have a 360-degree surround-view camera. These safety features are usually found on much more expensive cars.

While international variants may get hybrid or fully electric versions, the India-spec i20 is expected to keep its traditional engine lineup. It will continue using the reliable 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 83 horsepower. It will also have the performance-focused 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol motor, which produces 120 horsepower. This turbo engine is mainly for the sporty N-Line variant.

The new model will be a cornerstone of Hyundai’s production goals. Manufacturing will expand to Brazil alongside existing hubs in India and Turkey. Following its global premiere, the fourth-generation i20 is highly anticipated to launch in the Indian market sometime in 2027.

If you are thinking of waiting for the new i20, you should do so if you want the latest design with Y-shaped LED lights and a full-width light bar. You want the new curved dual-screen dashboard. You want Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera on a premium hatchback. You can wait until 2027 for the India launch. You should buy the current i20 if you need a car right now and cannot wait until 2027. You can also consider rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno or the Toyota Glanza.
