Bajaj Avenger Street 220 launches soon in India

The Bajaj Avenger Street 220 is making an official comeback in India. Bajaj Auto has already listed the motorcycle on its official website with a “Coming Soon” tag. This return marks a shift in Bajaj’s cruiser strategy. The Avenger Street 160 has been discontinued to make room for this more powerful 220cc variant. The Avenger 160 Street had a decent run, but Bajaj has decided to move on and offer a more capable machine.

Bajaj Avenger Street 220 launches soon in India

The Avenger Street 220 was last sold in India back in 2020, so it is returning after a gap of over six years. The exact launch date is not confirmed yet, but the launch is expected later in May 2026. The expected price is likely to be between ₹1.25 lakh and ₹1.30 lakh, ex-showroom. This will make it slightly more affordable than its touring-focused sibling, the Avenger Cruise 220, which retails for around ₹1.29 lakh.

The Street 220 will share its mechanical foundation with the Cruise 220. That means the engine and chassis are the same. The engine is a 220cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled DTS-i unit. DTS-i stands for Digital Twin Spark Ignition, which means there are two spark plugs for better combustion. The engine produces 19.03 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 17.55 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. It is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Braking is handled by a 280 mm front disc with single-channel ABS. The wheels are 17-inch in the front and 15-inch in the rear, and they are alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. The kerb weight is about 163 kg.

The main difference between the Street 220 and the Cruise 220 is the design and intended use. The Cruise variant is built for long highways. It has a tall windshield to protect you from wind, a cushioned backrest for the passenger, and lots of chrome parts for a classic look. It also uses wire-spoke wheels, which are traditional but require tubes. The Street variant is designed for effortless city riding. It features blacked-out mechanical parts instead of chrome, which gives it a darker, sportier look. It has a shorter handlebar, which is better for filtering through traffic. It skips the tall windshield and opts for a smaller flyscreen. It also has a sleek pillion grab rail instead of a large backrest. The Street variant comes with alloy wheels, which are easier to maintain than wire-spoke wheels. The Avenger Street 220 will be available in two colour options: Ebony Black and Cocktail Wine Red.

If you are thinking of buying the Bajaj Avenger Street 220, you should get it if you want a stylish cruiser bike for city riding and occasional highway trips. You should also consider it if you prefer a blacked-out, sporty look over a chrome-heavy classic look, and if you want the convenience of alloy wheels and tubeless tyres. The low seat height of 737 mm makes it very accessible for shorter riders. The expected price of around ₹1.25 to ₹1.30 lakh is very competitive.

You should consider the Avenger Cruise 220 if you prefer a more classic chrome look, a taller windshield for highway protection, and a cushioned backrest for your pillion. You should also consider the TVS Ronin if you want a modern retro cruiser with more features and a more powerful engine. The Ronin is a direct rival to the Avenger.
