As India pushes towards expanding biofuel blending beyond E20, Kia has unveiled an exciting breakthrough: the Kia Syros Flex-Fuel Concept. Capable of running on any blend from standard petrol to 100% pure ethanol (E100), this compact crossover proves that green motoring doesn’t mean sacrificing punchy performance.

1. Turbocharged Performance on Biofuel

While most flex-fuel prototypes in India rely on sluggish naturally aspirated engines, the Syros Flex-Fuel is paired with a spirited 1.0-litre 3-cylinder Turbo-GDi petrol engine developing approximately 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque, linked to a smooth 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

2. Heavy-Duty Fuel System Upgrades

Because ethanol is corrosive to standard rubber and metal lines, Kia has re-engineered the Syros with:

• Anti-corrosion fuel injectors and stainless steel high-pressure fuel rails.
• An ethanol fuel-composition optical sensor that detects the ethanol percentage in real-time.
• Dual-mapped Engine Control Unit (ECU) calibration to automatically adjust ignition timing and fuel delivery.
