Maruti Suzuki YMC – New 7-Seater Electric MPV Spied in India
Maruti Suzuki is working on a new electric vehicle called the YMC. It has been officially spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time. The test mules are heavily camouflaged, but they reveal a vehicle that is noticeably larger and more upright than the newly launched eVitara. This shows that Maruti is pushing hard into the family electric vehicle segment. If you need a spacious electric car for your family, the YMC is something to watch.

The YMC is much larger than the eVitara. It measures roughly 4.5 metres in length. The eVitara is only 4,275 mm long. The YMC is even longer than the standard petrol Ertiga. The spy shots show a butch, upright stance with strong SUV and MPV-like proportions. The front looks muscular and has sharp LED daytime running lights similar to Maruti’s Victoris petrol SUV. The YMC is intended to be Maruti’s flagship 3-row, 7-seater electric family mover. However, the specific test unit that was spotted had a visible rear parcel tray. This confirms that Maruti plans to offer the YMC in both 5-seat and 7-seat layouts. So you can choose the version that fits your family size.
The YMC is built on the Heartect-e platform. This is the same born-electric skateboard platform that was co-developed with Toyota. The platform ensures a completely flat floor inside the car. This drastically improves third-row legroom and comfort. Because it is a pure electric vehicle, there is no transmission tunnel in the middle of the floor. Passengers sitting in the middle row will have much more foot space. The test mule was seen riding on the same 18-inch alloy wheels and 225-section tyres as the eVitara. This helps Maruti save costs by sharing parts between models. The car completely lacks an exhaust system, which confirms that it is a pure electric vehicle, not a hybrid.
The YMC will likely use the same battery options as the eVitara. This means a base 49 kWh pack and a higher-tier 61.1 kWh pack. The larger battery pack is expected to deliver a claimed MIDC range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge. The real-world range will be somewhat less, but still good for a large 7-seater vehicle.
Maruti is positioning the YMC as a premium product. The cabin is expected to target “couch-like” comfort with top-tier technology. It will have a dual-screen floating infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. It will have connected LED taillight bars with a unique signature light pattern. It will come with a panoramic sunroof. The front and middle rows will have ventilated seats, which blow cool air to keep you comfortable in hot weather. It will also have Level 2 ADAS safety suites and a 360-degree camera system. These features are usually found on much more expensive cars.
The Maruti YMC is expected to launch by late 2026 or early 2027. It will enter a relatively uncrowded market segment. There are not many mass-market three-row electric vehicles in India yet. The YMC will primarily compete with the upcoming Kia Carens EV and the Tata Safari EV.
If you are thinking of waiting for the Maruti YMC, you should do so if you need a spacious 7-seater electric vehicle for your family. You want the flat floor for more legroom and comfort. You want premium features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and a 360-degree camera. You want the reliability and wide service network of Maruti Suzuki. You can wait until late 2026 or early 2027 for the launch.
You should consider the Maruti eVitara if you need a 5-seater electric SUV right now. You should consider the Tata Safari EV or Kia Carens EV if you need a 7-seater electric vehicle sooner, as those may launch earlier.
