MG to debut new plug-in hybrid SUV on July 16
MG Motor India has confirmed it will unveil a new “new energy vehicle” on July 16, 2026. This marks the brand’s entry into the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) segment in India. The upcoming SUV is widely expected to be a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560, a three-row, seven-seater vehicle already sold in international markets.

The key highlight of this SUV is its plug-in hybrid system. Expected specifications include:
– **Engine**: A 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor .
– **Combined Output**: Around 195 bhp and 230 Nm of torque .
– **Electric-Only Range**: Up to 125 km on a full charge .
– **Total Driving Range**: Over 1,000 km with a full tank and battery .
This setup allows for zero-emission daily commutes while removing range anxiety for longer trips. A fully electric version is also available globally and may follow later .
### Design and Dimensions
The SUV has a boxy, upright stance, measuring 4,745 mm in length and 1,850 mm in width . It features:
– **Front**: A large gloss-black grille, sleek LED headlamps with dual DRLs, and a rugged front bumper .
– **Side**: 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, and pronounced wheel-arch cladding .

Inside, the minimalist cabin features a 12.8-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a two-spoke steering wheel . It offers seating for up to seven passengers with leatherette upholstery .

In MG’s lineup, this new SUV is expected to be positioned above the Hector and below the Majestor . It will compete directly with other three-row SUVs like the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari .
