Tesla Model Y Price Cut of ₹9 Lakh on Premium RWD Variant
Tesla India has officially revised the price of the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive variant. The new price is ₹50.89 lakh, ex-showroom. This is a massive price cut of ₹9 lakh from the original launch price. This makes the 5-seater luxury electric SUV the most affordable vehicle in Tesla’s current Indian portfolio. Alongside this pricing restructure, Tesla has discontinued the Long Range Premium RWD variant. If you want to buy a Tesla, this is now the cheapest option.

The updated entry-level variant undercuts the recently launched six-seater Model Y L by ₹11.10 lakh. That leaves two clear choices for luxury EV buyers in India. You can either buy the cheaper 5-seater Model Y Premium RWD or the more expensive 6-seater Model Y L Premium AWD. The Premium RWD delivers a WLTP-certified range of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge. It achieves a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 5.9 seconds. It is powered by a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels.
The 2026 model receives some prominent upgrades. It has a brand new premium all-black interior option or an optional Zen Grey theme. It is equipped with a massive 16-inch touchscreen infotainment display with an updated user interface. The cargo space expands to over 2,100 litres with the rear seats folded down. Standard amenities include ambient lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, and a panoramic glass roof.
Customer deliveries for the newly priced Model Y Premium RWD are officially slated to commence in July 2026. Buyers can explore the vehicle in person at official Tesla Experience Centres currently operational in major metropolitan zones like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving package remains available as a factory-locked optional extra for an additional ₹6 lakh. However, it is important to note that this feature is still not operational in India at the time of writing.
The current Tesla India lineup as of May 2026 has two variants. The Tesla Model Y Premium RWD has 5 seats. It costs ₹50.89 lakh. It has a range of 500 km. The Tesla Model Y L Premium AWD has 6 seats in a 2+2+2 layout. It costs ₹61.99 lakh. It has a longer wheelbase, a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, and a range of 681 km. The Long Range Premium RWD has been discontinued. With its new pricing layout, the Model Y positions itself to compete against established electric premium crossovers like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, the BYD Sealion 7, and the Volvo EC40.
If you are thinking of buying the Tesla Model Y, you should get the Premium RWD if you want the most affordable Tesla in India. You want a 5-seater SUV with a range of 500 km. You do not need the extra space of the 6-seater version. You want to save ₹11 lakh compared to the Model Y L. You should get the Model Y L Premium AWD if you need 6 seats for your family. You want a longer range of 681 km. You want the extra performance of all-wheel drive. You have a higher budget of about ₹62 lakh.
